DEWmocracy – The Hunt, Part 1

Mountain Dew has an interesting idea. Apparently, someone thought of the idea a few years back that the consumers are always right. How do you make new flavors you know they will like? Easy, give them the choice.

I remember the first DEWmocracy. When I heard of it, I thought it was a really good idea. Why didn’t anyone else think of this? What they decided to do was release three new flavors at the same time. You would buy these flavors, taste test them, and vote for the one you liked best. This is how Mountain Dew Voltage became a permanent flavor in the Dew lineup. You can’t please everyone, but with this system, you knew you could please the majority. I love all three flavors. They all had their good points, but the best won and for that i am happy.

Since it worked so well the first time, they decided to do it again. Enter Mountain Dew Distortion, Typhoon, and White Out. When I heard these new flavors were hitting the market for the fans to once again to decided the next Mountain Dew flavor, I could hardly wait to taste them when they came out on April 19th. Little did I know… how hard they are to find. Damn it!

Day 1, April 19th - The new flavors released today. I had to find them. The website to vote was already open, and Montana was leaning towards White Out. I couldn’t have that! I haven’t tried any flavors yet, but it seemed weird. White Out was like 50% of the country despite the fact the flavors just got released. I voted for Distortion in Montana. Green is much easier on the eyes… Even things out a bit by voting for the underdog. After i got off of work, the hunt began. I immediately raced to Walmart, figuring a big store would have it first. No. It didn’t. You disappoint me Walmart. I left Wally World, thinking of the other places i could check. I flew down the road dodging cars, kids, animals, and old women. Nothing would stop me from finding my Dew! I stopped at a local gas station, hoping to find the new flavors ready to go. No, they didn’t have the flavors either. The last stop was the dollar store. It was a long shot, but i knew they sold Mountain Dew, so i had to check. They didn’t have the new Dews yet either. Figures, if Walmart doesn’t, why would these places either? I’ll just check around more tomorrow. That’s an extra day to stock the new flavors. I know other places in the country them, but it cant be that hard to get them to Montana! Arrrrgghhh~!

Day 2, April 20th - Woke up to late to go hunting in the morning, to it has to wait. Mouunnttaaainnn Deewwww~. So after eating a nice pizza for lunch (with Mountain Dew on the side, of course) i headed back out to the wild to find the new DEWmocracy flavors. Unfortunately,  I had little time to search before i had to return to the office, but it was enough time to hit up Walmart and steal their lunch money take their Dew. Did they have the new flavors? No. What the heck Walmart! Don’t you restock every night?! Agh. I thought you were better then that! I think its time for us to see other clientele… oooh, wait, is that a cup holder?! After work, the hunt began again. Must find DEWmocracy flavors – my will to live was riding on this hunt! It must be completed! K-mart, please, don’t let me down. You were always so good to me… what? No DEWmocracy either? #*@%! Safeway? Nope. Albertsons?! Ye- no.

Montana, the state Dew forgot. Damn it!
KKKHHHAAAAAANNN!

    Almost none of the stores stock their own soda (or beer). It all up to the local distributors (Harrington’s Pepsi in Bozeman) to keep the stores in stock.

    Maybe I should go protest them or something.

    At least you guys get all the flavours of Mountain Dew. Most places in Australia only have the original, which is still good, but those with a Mountain Dew addiction like myself need MORE!

    The only way to get the other flavours in Australia is to either live in a capital city or import it yourself.

    @Lachy
    Yea, We rock. :) How much are import fees anyways? I would be willing to mail some to you if it isn’t really expensive…

    @Akura
    I have no idea actually, you’d have to find out yourself. I don’t think it’s too bad…
